Developmental Testing Toronto:

CAPD & Learning Style Screening

We provide learning and developmental assessment for Toronto children. Our screening process consists of a collection of tests that provide a quick and comprehensive picture of an individual’s learning style. A Screening supplies scores without supplementary analysis. If a Screening demonstrates discrepancies amongst the scores, more in-depth testing may be required. Though the Screening process has the advantage of being less costly than a full Psychoeducational Assessment, for an individual who already presents with ongoing learning or behavioural issues, a full Assessment may be a more effective tool.

Our Screening Services include:

The Childpathing System® (ages 4-7)

The Childpathing® System is a Psychoeducational Screening technique used to establish the learning profile of children ages 4 to 7 years. It encompasses a combination of standardized testing and specifically designed assessment tools. It provides a quick but comprehensive picture of learning potential, aptitudes, and learning style.

As a parent, you want to know as early as possible, the best path for your child's educational future. In order to make informed decisions, you need to be aware of your child's progress in language and reading, and to have a comprehensive picture of the cognitive skills involved in learning, learning style, and social/emotional development. The Childpathing® System is an efficient, effective, and economical method of determining a child’s aptitude and learning potential. Also, the entire testing is done within a day.

Our process will help you determine appropriate school placement.

The Screening process may also indicate:

  • "gifted" functioning
  • potential future learning difficulties
  • developmental, social, and behavioural age-appropriate indicators

Our System provides:

  • a profile of ‘intelligence’, or learning potential
  • current development in cognitive skills and behaviour
  • information on learning style
  • early or pre-academic skill levels
  • indication of special needs areas

Gifted  Screening (grade school – adult)

The Gifted Screening will determine if a student is intellectually advanced and suitable for enrollment in an academically “Gifted” school program. In order to qualify for a Gifted school program the student must be professionally assessed. We administer the required educational and psychological testing that will determine if the student is functioning at the necessary academic level for placement. Our collection of tests fulfills all requirements of the various school boards.

For students with an advanced degree of intellectual ability, the regular school program lacks challenge and stimulation. It is therefore extremely important for the Gifted student’s needs to be addressed early to avoid disappointments that might possibly manifest as behavioural problems down the road. For parents, it will give a picture of your child’s true academic potential and help to plan the proper educational path.

Academic and Cognitive Screening (ages 8 - adult)

This is a Psychoeducational Screening technique used to establish the learning profile of students ages 8 to adult. It utilizes the same combination of standardized testing and assessment tools as those employed in The Childpathing® System, at more advanced levels, relevant to specific age and the necessary requirements of increasingly higher academic stages. It provides a quick but comprehensive picture of learning potential, aptitudes, and learning style.

French Language (Grade 1 – Adult)

We now offer the fundamental academic test from our Academic and Cognitive Screening, in French. This will help to establish the academic profile of students who are, or will be, enrolled in a French Immersion program. At this time, only the academic portion of the Screening is offered in French, as conclusive cognitive testing materials are not yet available. This testing provides a quick but comprehensive picture of the learning potential and aptitudes of French Immersion students.

As a parent, it will give you an understanding of your child’s true norms in the areas of vocabulary, comprehension, and math, as early as possible, in order to determine if French Immersion is the best course for your child's educational future.
