We are the resource that parents call upon after their child has been lost in the shuffle of school education, or the adult who has fallen through the cracks. At our Education and Remediation Centre in Toronto, learning disabilities are managed by going back to the beginning.
While other programs emphasize rules, memorization, and moving fast, dEcode® teaches individuals how to learn by getting at all underlying processes. It is not about memorization, but memory, auditory and visual discrimination, and getting to know yourself and how much information you can handle at one time. As a result, dEcode® the method, can teach everyone, whether they have underlying processing problems or not. It enables the learning of all subjects, including the most basic of all – reading, writing, and math.
dEcode® has a broad application and is not limited to those with learning disabilities. It has proven successful when applied to individuals with dyslexia and other learning difficulties as well as the underlying processing deficits such as Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) that cause these disabilities. It has also proven greatly beneficial to those without disorders, and is effective with preschoolers.
Those with learning difficulties may also experience challenges with social adjustment, stemming from negative patterns of interactions with teachers and peers. Counseling and support over and above remediation can be crucial for those with behavioural problems.
Additionally, once the learning problem has been remediated, there are often other issues to be treated. Frequently the student finds they are lagging academically and requires educational support to help catch up on missed schoolwork. We are prepared to help address many issues beyond the fundamental remediation.
Furthermore, we provide advocacy for our students in their relationships with their schools and other post secondary institutions, to ensure that our students get the support they need for educational success.
The Chesnie Cooper Education and Remediation Centre will remediate learning problems, educate by filling the learning gaps, and provide counseling and advocacy for those who require help beyond dEcode®.
Our Toronto Central Auditory Processing Disorder professionals are ready to help.
