123 dEcode®:

Toronto Numeracy Skills Program

123 dEcode® is a learning program developed by Dr. Debby Chesnie Cooper’s Education and Remediation Centre in Toronto. Learning disabilities can prevent children and adults from acquiring basic, simple, computational skills like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Supported by the latest neurological research, it can be used to prepare kids for math classes or as a remedial program when other numeracy resources fail to address underlying processing deficits. Using a series of math workbooks and exercises, learners focus on computational skills, and then progress to applied math through our rules-based system.

What is Numeracy?

Numeracy is the mastery of basic symbols and processes of arithmetic including:  numbers, addition, subtraction, simple multiplication, simple division, simple weights and measures, money counting and telling time.

How does 123 dEcode® work?

123 dEcode® provides careful, systematic instruction, teaching the fundamentals of math in small incremental steps in order to build mastery of short-term memory into long-term memory.

Once these computational skills are learned, the student progresses to the computational skills beginning with Basic Fractions. Each computational workbook comes with a unique ‘answer’ book, that provides each and every step required to achieve the solutions – not just the answer.

For students of all ages, 123 dEcode® provides the opportunity to learn math like no other teaching system.

Would you like to speak to an expert on teaching math to kids? Our Toronto numeracy resources are ready to help.
