dEcode For Kids Numbers:

Numeracy Resources for Toronto Kids

Math and numbers don’t have to present a challenge for your preschooler. dEcode® For Kids Numbers addresses the underlying processes required for numeracy. Developed by Toronto numeracy skills expert, Dr. Debby Chesnie Cooper, it provides an unparalleled range of examples and combinations that ensure understanding and retention of concepts essential to numerical operations. Through both the CD and accompanying workbooks children are exposed to exercises that develop the following underlying processes:

  • Sound to symbol attachment (recognition, memory)
  • Sequencing processing
  • Conceptual understanding of pure number sense. This involves both understanding different quantities; more and less; and the visual patterning that develops numerous ways of recognizing different patterns of objects reflecting the same number
  • Learning how to write each number appropriately
  • Development of fine motor and eye/hand coordination
  • Visual patterning (visual short term memory)
  • Visual memory
  • Auditory memory

Should learning problems continue, dEcode® For Kids Numbers will give the parent insight into the signs that indicate a child might need more thorough attention, and whether a formal Psychoeducational Assessment should be undertaken.
